General Information For Prospective PhD students

Ecosystem modelling is a very rewarding field of study : It allows you to work on the ‘big picture’ questions, bringing together data from lots of different sources, and there is a lot of call for good ecosystem modellers. Some of my previous grad students have focused on modelling; these students have typically had strong maths or physics backgrounds.  I’m keen to hear from potential students with maths/physics training who are interested in moving into ecosystem modelling. I’m also very happy to co-supervise students who want to do experimental projects that involve some modelling. Potential project areas at present include: impacts of drought on grasslands; modelling of soil phosphorus dynamics; competition among species for water; and influence of species traits on ecosystem function.
